Jon Rodgers
Jon Rodgers (born Jonathan Rodgers) is a localization producer and localization director at Sega's Global Business Department. He is the leader of Sega's Bridge Team, which provides support to localization teams for games published by Sega.[1]
Rodgers has a special thanks credit on Shining Resonance Refrain.
Sega's Localization Strategy
In an interview featured in a Sega recruitment video from 2022, Rodgers discusses a shift in Sega's localization policy that began in 2017.[1]
In 2017 or so there was a decision made that Sega was not going to just localize a few of their titles, but we were going to localize everything we're doing, so we needed a team to support that and we put together that team, and I was basically at the center of it, and I've been the team leader of Bridge Team at Sega.
. . . Sega right now I think is in a really, really interesting place because we have a combination of a few things. One is that, you know, in recent years there's been the sort of strategic shift to localize everything, which is great. But now even in the last like two or three years we've taken a shift to simultaneously ship everything. So we want all of the games to be released at the same time worldwide. So I think that's going to have a real big impact on Sega's future as a brand.
The second thing is that we're also orienting our titles more to the global market and the Western market. It's not just the domestic market anymore, it's like, "How are people reacting overseas? Are they enjoying it? Are they sticking around?" Etcetera. And I think that's going to really improve the quality of our games.
