Star Eye

    Star Eyes (星目族スターアイ,[1] Sutā Ai, "Star Eye"; Hoshi Me Zoku, "Star Eye Race") are people characterized by a magical third eye on their foreheads, which is itself known as a Star Eye (星の瞳スターアイ,[2] Hoshi no Hitomi, "Eye of the Stars").

    Dark Sol, who originally appeared in Shining and the Darkness, and Otranto, originally from Shining Force, are revealed in Doom Blade to belong to this class of being, along with an unnamed cantaur girl. After leaving the Shining series, the character designer and author Yoshitaka Tamaki would incorporate similar beings into the setting of FEDA.

    The appearance of three-eyed spellcasters was also used by SUEZEN in Shining Force II: The Ancient Seal.

    In Doom Blade, Dark Sol describes the Star Eyes as the "seed of Metaphaluna", which may have some association with the Ancients. Dark Sol fears that the Great Intention seeks to replace the Star Eyes with the younger peoples of the world.[3][4]

    Dark Sol states that, along with the powerful magic they wield, Star Eyes have the power to foresee the future.[1]

    In order to unleash the extent of his power in Doom Blade, Dark Sol removes his helmet to uncover his third eye.[5] This behavior is repeated in Shining Soul. Although he does not remove his helmet in Shining Force, a third red eye is visible on his battle scene sprites on the brow of his helmet.

    King Dahama wears a false eye in his forehead to evoke the image of a Star Eye.[5]

    Otranto implies that the three-eyed cantaur in Doom Blade was granted her Star Eye by the will of the Great Intention.[6]
